Fama does the best he knows how, but he can not adapt to the changed world. The countryside is different than the city, but life has changed here as well. He does not hesitate to let the images, the rhythms, the words kouroouma his mother-tongue pierce the polished surface of polite prose.
Based on the title of this book, I expected a triumphal story of an African country becoming inrependances of colonial rule. Ultimately, this book is about the end of an age.
