This book is awesome. I worried about them, cheered for them, cried for them. This doesn’t mean that the author skips the ugliness of war; just that the violence occurs endangeered versus a graphic description of someone being killed.

I love the light it sheds on a region that young readers, myself included, know little about. While some might not like this, it does make it more suitable for young readers who will focus more on the adventures than horrors of war. Congo is a dangerous place, even for people who are trying to do good.
