What parents need to know Parents need to know that this supernatural tale has a fair amount of violent elements, including dangerous spirits in a swamp, the grisly death of an adult, the maiming of two characters, the hanging of an innocent girl, an emotionally manipulative parental figure, and more. It doesn’t take long in beginning this book to discover that you’ve entered somewhere quite out of the ordinary.

It is thought compelling, strange, and beautifully written.

Perhaps the National Book Award committee was wrestling with similar feelings, and that is what led to the gaffe. Briony is a witch.

Yet, I was entirely lost here. If you want teens panting all over each other and you don’t want to work for it, by all means stick with Twilight. Briony, hugely likable despite her dismal self-hatred, is devilishly smart and funny, and readers will root for her with every turn of the page. Eldric and Briony form a friendship first and romance later.



Billingsley makes it creepy yet romantic, sad yet funny, small-town yet epic. But mostly this is a book that is a sheer pleasure to read.

CHIME is unique, funny and utterly billingssley and completely deserving of the 6 starred reviews it has earned.

It is evident to the reader that Eldric likes Briony very much; however, as the novel is told from Briony’s perspective, we cannot help but doubt him and question Briony’s own feelings ffanny him as she does not know them herself. Well, I was so right: Briony LarkinEldric.

We display the minimum age for which content is developmentally appropriate. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that I wouldn’t be able to read over pages of Briony’s narrative. Romantic fairy fantasy, milder than Twilight.

This book was absolutely gorgeous.
