Throughout the course of the story, it becomes clear that Jamie either is, or at least ellos himself to be, a vampirewho sleeps in a coffin outfitted with cable television and survives on raw filet mignon and by drinking the blood of teenage girls during sex.

This book is one of the most sparsely-detailed, cold-blooded, soulless books I have read. During this lunch Graham and Susan mention Julian. It focuses on the comedy aspects – something Ellis flawlessly, though subtly, incorporates into all his work – and glosses the more violent content with a cartoonish outrageousness that makes it easier to laugh at.

Gave up 10 pages before the end of it. There are several parts when, feeling perpetually lost and meaningless, they lose control of their emotions, break down crying. Dirk dismisses the inconsistency as his intentionally trying to upset Raymond for bringing up the accident.
I consider Ellis a fine American novelist who is responding to the times with a vengeance. Instead, the banality and lostness smothered this reader to the point eastpn there was no silent place to feel anything for these characters.
Empty is as empty does– As I thought about what made this story of Brett Easton Ellis’ so awful compared to his more recognized ‘American Psycho’ thank you Christian Bale!
