The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore each system shall be used independently of the other. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. A stress relief anneal after cold working may be done at F with air cooling.

Filler rod of the same alloy should be used. Electrical resistivity and conductivity shall be determined.

ASTM B317 Grade 6101 T6

T63 F for 19 hours and air cool. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. It is hardened strengthened by heat treatment. Hot working generally is not required because the alloy has very good cold working characteristics. This specification covers aluminum-alloy extruded bar, rod, tube, pipe, Schedules 40 and 80structural profiles, and profiles in selected tempers for use as electric conductors.

Either carbide or high speed tool steel tooling may be used. The AL alloy does respond to heat treatment which is accomplished by annealing and relatively low temperature aging.

Forming characteristics are good by conventional processes. Easily cold worked, or cold formed in either the annealed or aged conditions. T63 – 21 ksi.

Historical Version s – view previous versions of standard. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. Pipe or tube may be produced through porthole or bridge type dies. This is a high electrical conductivity aluminum alloy also possessing good mechanical strength properties. See “Annealing” and “Aging”. Electrical bus bar conductor applications for use in enclosed bus electrical installations. Type A material, last covered in the issue of this specification, is no longer available; therefore, requirements for cold-finished rectangular bar have been deleted.

The preferred method of welding is by means of inert gas arc welding for best results. Distributors will offer small quantity buys while mills will generally only sell large quantities, with delivery times anywhere from 10 to 50 weeks depending on size and form required This material is stocked primarily in Bar Products by 7 distributors but is also available to a lesser extent in Tubular Products.

Modulus of Elasticity Tension.

Welding by all of the standard processes may be done, including gas torch welding. Annealing is done at F for 3 hours at temperature, followed by controlled cooling at a rate of 50 F per hour down to F, then air cool. Machinability by conventional means is good. When welded in the heat treated condition the subsequent parts will be lower in strength because of weld heat input.

Link to Active This link will always route to the current Active version of the standard. T6 F for 20 hours and air cool.

Hardens due to cold working or aging heat treatment — see “Aging”. Use of an oil base lubricant during machining operations is recommended.

B3317 bars, rods, tubes, pipes, structural profiles and profiles shall be produced by hot extrusion or by similar methods.

No data, although the alloy is considered forgeable. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application.

Aging is done at different temperatures and times, xstm upon the finished temper desired as follows: T6 – 22 ksi.

Shear strength values are: T61 – 17 ksi. Tensile properties of the specimens such as tensile and yield strengths and bending shall be determined by tension test and bending test, respectively.
